Blog #5 -- The baroque Period

The Baroque is a period of artistic style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur in sculpture, painting, literature, dance, and music.

It is a French transliteration of the Portuguese phrase "pérola barroca", which means "irregular pearl", and natural pearls that deviate from the usual, regular forms so they do not have an axis of rotation are known as "baroque pearls".

I personally think that baroque period has the most powerful artworks because it shows motion, tension, details, grandeur and beauty.
Like for example, a simple sculpture of a man in a fight, in baroque sculpture, it is very detailed until to the smallest parts of it. We can actually see the muscles of a man or simply how the wind blew the dress. Take note that it is on a sculpture! how difficult is that to do?!

Baroque period is somewhat like an extension of the renaissance period where in they just improved it and make use of other subject matter. but the styles are similar.

In this period, they have used 2 kinds of style.

1. Naturalism.
-it is naturalism because it portrays the different activities or daily events happening around us.It shows life.

2. Classicism
-because of the use of the techniques during the renaissance period such as the chiaroscuro and other styles found in the renaissance era. It also shows elegance and beauty.
